“The color, the visual composition and the way of telling a story are her work´s main focus and what moves her to projects and collaborations. She has been collaborating with studios as well as individual artists as a freelancer.”
Hello,
My name is Mafalda!
I graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts - University of Lisbon in 2014, with a bachelor’s degree in Equipment Design. During my bachelor’s degree I also studied at the Nuova Accademia di Belli Arti, in Milan under the Erasmus program. Afterwards, I pursued a master’s degree in Product Design at Esad.Cr (School of Arts and Design,Caldas da Rainha), which was completed in 2017. Further into my studies, I enrolled in a postgraduate program in Art Curation at the NOVA University – FCSH.
Design comes in as the foundation for an artistic direction involving the relationship with space and objects compositions. The experience I intend to create is this way translated into a three-dimensional action, through colour, form, and narrative, bringing something playful and unexpected to the projects. The main idea is the relation between the space, object and human/ body.
Currently my work consists of art direction projects, set design, scenography, objects making and artistic installations. The use of colour, visual compositions, textiles, and photography are also structural languages in my work.
It’s very important to me that my artworks and projects are created reusing materials. Ending up reusing most of the time from a past project to another.
Since 2018 I have also been collaborating with architecture and design studios as a designer, having worked in production, making and creation of exhibitions/ festivals, among other artistic projects.
In 2020 together with my friend Ana battaglia Abreu, we founded an artistic shared studio and co-work - Aberta Studio. Nowadays, together with Margarida Lopes Pereira and Mariana do Vale managing the project , we are a creative community of almost 20 freelancers sharinga studio in Graça, Lisbon. This is where you can find me.
